Maoming Technician College has established an integrated IoT (smart home) teaching and training center, combining instruction, hands-on practice, and experiential learning.

Maoming Technician College (Maoming No. 2 Senior Technical School) is a full-time public technical college approved by the People’s Government of Guangdong Province. It is among the first batch of national demonstration schools for secondary vocational education reform and development, a national-level training base for highly skilled personnel, and a pilot institution for integrated curriculum teaching reform nationwide. The college also serves as a teaching site for Sun Yat-sen University of Science and Technology and Guangdong University of Petrochemical Technology, a learning center of the National Open University, and a tutoring center for the Higher Education Self‑Study Examination. Additionally, it is a provincial training base for highly skilled personnel, an entrepreneurship training base, a training base for Cantonese cuisine chefs, and one of the first batch of model institutions in Guangdong Province implementing a dual-system school–enterprise collaborative education model. The campus boasts a serene environment, lush greenery, and convenient transportation; it benefits from a strong faculty, innovative program offerings, and well‑equipped student facilities. The college comprises six secondary teaching units: the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the Department of Electrical Engineering, the Department of Food and Chemical Engineering, the Department of Modern Services, the Center for General Vocational Skills Development, and the Entrepreneurship College. With over 11,000 enrolled students, the institution has maintained a graduate employment rate exceeding 98% since its inception. It stands as one of Guangdong Province’s largest and most robust technical colleges. Since 2019, in accordance with the provincial Party Committee and government’s strategic decision to integrate eligible technician colleges into the higher vocational education system, the college has been vigorously working toward establishing a higher vocational college. It is committed to developing a talent‑training model that seamlessly bridges technical and higher vocational education, thereby meeting the industry’s growing demand for skilled professionals.

The center is equipped with a comprehensive IoT-based smart home training platform, an educational sandbox for conceptual visualization, and a dedicated workshop for the installation and commissioning of smart devices, among other teaching facilities. Adopting an integrated theory‑and‑practice approach, the center cultivates students’ capabilities in IoT system planning, installation and commissioning, and system integration, thereby deepening the integration of industry and education in talent development.
